It contains no gables. Most gable roofs have a slope between 3 12 in 7 6 30 5 cm vertical rise for every 12 in 30 cm horizontally. They may end at the walls or extend past past them. A hybrid of hipped and gable with the gable wall at the top and hipped lower down.

Roof pitch or slope is measured in a vertical to horizontal ratio. A gambrel roof usually contains a gable at each end just like a standard gable roof.
